Last year Ryan and I made a New Years Resolution to go on a road trip. We wanted to drive somewhere and discover our part of the country. Well, with gas prices so crazy last year we bagged the resolution until this weekend. Ryan had four days off and Aidan had a day off from school so we decided it would be a great chance to go. We chose to go to Nauvoo. When we told the kids they didn't really understand. Aidan started asking me what airport we were flying out of and how many planes we were going on and what time our flight was. When I told him we were driving he said, "Why?" Even as we started our trip he said, "Dad, do you know airplanes are faster than cars?" "Yes" said Ryan. "Then why are we driving?" asked Aidan. We laughed. Yes, my kids have a warped view of traveling. Road trips are a new concept to these spoiled flyers.
We started off for St. Louis about 5:00 p.m. and will stay the night tonight.

that is soooo funny!!! have fun on your "road" trip and trying to be like normal people.
It's good to go to Nauvoo now, cuz they have wickedly hot summers.
Good luck.
Have fun and good luck! You seem like a fun nice mom, as opposed to me who just gets mad in the van. I need to get a better view of road trips.
Yes you are SPOILED!! I think it's funny that Aidan thinks that you have to fly to everywhere. What a packing job you did. Wish I were along. You should take the family to Abe Lincoln's cabin next. It's not that far away. You are so wise to do this. It is such a beautiful area...just get to know even the little towns. They are amazing.
HA HA! My kids are the same way... If we go anywhere in the car that is over an hour they starting asking when we will get to the airport... Last time we flew, Josh said, "can't we just drive? Flying is boring!" um- like driving isn't??? He has no idea how lucky he is!!!
